Most Common Domestic Electrical Issues

We have all experienced some domestic electrical issues in our lives. Many are not serious, but some can’t be ignored. Here at ABC Electrical we cater to any issue, big or small! With years of experience in the industry, we have seen many different electrical issues within homes.

Here are some of the most common domestic electrical issues:

-Circuit breaker problems

Your home’s circuit breaker is a box that contains several switches. These switches are safety devices that are designed to trip. When too much power tries to travel through the circuit it causes the switch to overheat. A circuit breaker that trips occasionally is doing its job in preventing overheating and fires from overloads, but a circuit breaker that trips repeatedly means that there are bigger problems at hand. One of the main causes for a circuit breaker is that you have too many high-power appliances working at the same time. Also, if your circuit breaker keeps having continuous issues, then it is time to get in contact with ABC Electrical. We will inspect your home for signs of bad wiring, ground faults, and other more complex electrical problems.

-Damaged, exposed or frayed wiring

Electrical installations like wires, cables, switches, sockets etc. have a limited lifespan. As they get older, deterioration sets in and could lead to any one or more of the aforementioned issues. Exposed or damaged wiring can be a very dangerous hazard in your home, causing fires and electrocutions. If you have recently bought an old home or currently live in one, it is important to get your house wiring professionally checked by an electrician.

 -Electricity Surges

A surge is what happens when there is a spike in charge within power lines, which increases the current to your home’s outlets. Surges often result in the rapid on-off of appliances like televisions. Repeated exposure to a surge can damage electronics and drastically reduce their lifespan. Although, surge protectors can help prevent these happening regularly but if they continue, it is important to contact a licenced electrician.
